Health and Physical Fitness have vital role in the life of a man from time immemorial. The progress of the Nation lies in the hands of youth, who are physically fit and mentally sound. Keeping the insinuation of physical education under contemplation, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir established the College of Physical Education in the year 1976 at Naseem Bagh Srinagar, which was then shifted Ganderbal at a distance of 22 Km from Srinagar city against the scenic background of the rural charm in the vicinity of shrine of Hazrat Qamar-Ud-Din Sahib(RA). The process for construction of new campus was started in 2005 and about 255 kanals of land was acquired. Since then the construction of new College Campus at Gadoora, Ganderbal is in full swing, In the first phase the Government of Jammu & Kashmir accorded an approval (AAA) of 3039 Lacs for construction of Three buildings viz. Administrative Block, Boy’s and Girls’ Hostel. It was setup with the aim to impart Physical Education to Sports Persons who intend to adopt Sports as profession. Being the only Physical Education College of the state, the college produces highly trained competent and skillful professionals to promote Physical Education Games and Sports at Primary, Secondary and Higher Education Level Institutions in the state. Besides imparting Physical Education to the students, the College organises various programs like Refresher Courses, Workshops, Seminars, Athletic Meet, Education Tours, Annual Leadership Training Camp, Picnic, Trekking etc. and also conduct various sports activities for different departments for promotion of sports culture among the youths both at State as well as at National level. The New College Campus at Gadoora Ganderbal is impending up with the latest modern amenities and advanced infrastructure in order to promote and bring the standard of Physical Education and Sports at par with other National Institutes of the country.
